It had been several years since I had been out on the winter range in Wyoming photographing bucks......needless to say, I was super excited. Besides, what better way to spend Thanksgiving and Black Friday than on the winter range. No shopping, no lines....just lots of big 'ol bucks and family. Doesn't get any better than that!
The feature photo pic for this blog entry was taken by Cameron Leavitt a little over a week ago in Wyoming. Talk about a STUD buck! This pic was sent to me right before I left for Wyoming, so needless to say, I was pumped and couldn't wait to get to get on the road.
Cheryl and I spent Thanksgiving day on the winter range by ourselves. We covered a lot of country and got to share some great quality time together. We discussed lots of ideas for the new book as well as the new blog. The two pics below are of the best two bucks we saw that day.
On Black Friday we were joined by Holly, Heather (daughters), Gabe (son-in-law) Paizlee, Haddie and Jak (grandkids). I must say, having family along on the second day was very special indeed. Anytime you can combine family and your passion for mule deer you cant go wrong.
We located several good bucks throughout the day but right at dark, we located the best buck of the entire trip. He was a huge typical with a small cheater on each side. The buck easily scored in the 190's and it wouldn't surprise me if he actually touched the magical 200" mark. As you can see in the pic below, he has HUGE backs.
Below is a video compilation of the best bucks we saw during our two day outing.

Being out on the winter range for these short two days made me realize how much I miss watching these big 'ol bucks. I am already counting the days until I am able to make my next trip.
I hope you enjoy the pics and video.
