Briksdal MTN GTX:
Hunters are always looking for the best gear, and boots are some of the most important pieces of gear. You want something that will ensure that your feet stay protected and comfortable in a variety of harsh conditions. I’m a big personal fan of extremely lightweight boots, and over the past few years, I have leaned heavily into synthetic, lightweight boots like the Crispi Lapponia, as I feel like they fatigue a little less in a run-and-gun hunting approach. But, lightweight boots have their drawbacks as well, particularly when backpacking very heavy loads. When Crispi announced the new Briksdal MTN GTX, I was very interested in a boot that was constructed out of synthetics, with an emphasis on breathability, but in a little bit sturdier platform designed for backcountry hunting.
The Specs:
The Briksdal MTN is a lightweight, non-insulated, gore tex lined, fully synthetic mountain boot that was designed to function like a full leather boot, while providing the benefits of synthetic materials in breathability, structure, and durability. It features a full-surround Gore-Tex liner, meaning these boots will be waterproof and breathable in a variety of conditions. The Briksdal MTN also features an asymmetrical lacing system that allows the user to customize their lacing to their feet, design, the abss system, Crispi’s EFX midsole, and a Vibram Megagrip outsole. The flex rating on this boot is a 3 out of 5, which places it in the middle of the stiffness spectrum.
Height: 9” Weight (one boot, size 10): 1.7 lbs Other Features: full rubber rand, PUTek spider fabric on upper, and Crispi’s ABSS (Ankle Bone Support System).
My Experience:
I picked up a pair this spring and took a few hikes looking for sheds. Since then, I don’t think I wore another pair of boots. The Briksdal MTN really lives up to all of the hype. It’s still a fairly lightweight boot but provides really nice support when needed. I would say of any boot I have ever used, the Briksdal MTN is my favorite all-around boot that fits the needs of mobile hunters who will encounter a variety of terrain types, weather conditions, and load weights during their hunts.
This year, I shifted gears from my typical hunting schedule and went on a horseback archery hunt in Wyoming. We spent 9 days trudging through rain, heat, and covered some major country on horseback, and on our feet chasing bulls in some extreme terrain, rugged canyons, and big country. The Briksdal MTNs performed exceptionally well in every instance. My feet stayed dry, didn’t overheat, and I had good comfort and stability whether we were on a horse, hiking through large high country meadows, scaling cliffs, or packing loads.
If you’re looking for a do-it-all boot, the Briksdal MTN should be one to try on and consider. Give us a call or shoot me a message on IG (@bcarter307) or email me at brad@altitudeoutdoors.com to get in on the best Crispi prices of the year!
