The new Trinovid 10x42 binocular offered by Leica comes in at a price point ($999) that isn't as familiar for Leica. Outsourcing production to Portugal has allowed Leica to produce and compete in a mid optic price point. I have used the Trinovid 10x42 over the past 3 months and thought I'd put together my thoughts on the optic. Additionally I had an opportunity to compare the Trinovid against a few other competing models. That article will be published very soon. I have been very impressed with the Trinovid 10x4. They are very compact, rugged, and ergonomically sound. The glass is very good. When compared with similar models I found the Trinovids to be superior in low light resolution and light transmission. The diopter is located on the right side, and does not lock. I prefer a locking diopter, however I find that it stays in place, and I haven't bumped it out of focus yet. The eye relief is very good, and like most binoculars, the twist up eyepieces allow you customize your view. The eyepieces do stay in place, so after pulling them back out of my bino pack, I never have to re-adjust the eyepiece to my preferred relief. I use my binoculars on a tripod often, and the Leica does not come with a threaded post hole to attach a standard binocular adapter. So I've been using the Leica 420220 Tripod adapter. While this a bit more expensive and bulky than most tripod adapters. I like it better than most that I've used. It attaches with a rubber strap, and really keeps binoculars locked in with no wiggles or vibration at all. The Leica is also fairly compact, when compared to some of the other competing models. I found them to be 5.875 inches tall (with eyepiece lengthened to maximum length). Outside edge width could be as small as 4.25 inches if needed. Weight came in at 1 lb 10 oz. If you're in the market for a new set of mid range binoculars, don't overlook the Trinovids. When I personally compared them with other offerings, in low light, outdoor settings, the Trinovid 10x42 from Leica stood out. We are now a full service Leica dealer!
